Simple Ways to Save Money on a Trip to WDW

Most of these suggestions have been covered in earlier blog posts, so if you want more details just follow the link at the end of this post.  So without further ado, here are ten simple ways to save money on a trip to Disney World.
  1. Drive down instead of flying.  Assuming that you only stay a night in a hotel each day, it is usually cheaper than flying.  Or, use points to purchase some or all of your plane tickets.  This has saved our family over a grand each trip.
  2. Stay in a Disney Value Resort, Disney Springs Resort Area hotel, an off site hotel, or rent a condo or home in Lake Buena Vista or Orlando.  Disney Resorts can be wonderful,  but they are quite expensive, especially the Deluxe Resorts.
  3. Take advantage of Disney promotions including the popular Free Dining one or room discounts of up to 30% off.  But you will have to be flexible on when you go, as these are only offered during certain periods and for particular resorts.    This year we also took advantage of the multi day park ticket discount for Canadian residents.
  4. Sometimes you can save money by purchasing a Disney Dining Plan,  but we saved hundreds by not purchasing it.  It all depends on where you are going to dine and what you normally order.
  5. Bring snacks into the park instead of purchasing all of them.  Security allows food into the parks,  so packing such items as fruit and / or granola bars can help to quell hunger quickly and cheaply.
  6. Bring refillable water bottles,  and refill them with free iced water at any quick service dining location.   Those with built in filters such as the ones by Brita are even better.
  7. If you have a car, pick up cereal and milk for your room to eat breakfasts, or have Garden Grocer deliver some groceries to your resort room.  If you stay in a non Disney hotel or off site, breakfast may be included, or could possibly be added to your rate.  Some Disney Resorts  offer club service rooms at a surcharge which includes breakfast each morning.
  8. There are coupons on the back of the most current edition of BIrnbaum's Official Guide to Walt Disney World for some Disney Springs and Epcot restaurants and other services and attractions.   Check it out, and if it has somthing you might use,  then you could purchase the book.
  9. If you buy your park tickets separately,  you could save by buying through an authorized seller such as Canadian Automobile Association offices or Underground Tourist.
  10. Buy autograph books and the like before you leave home, so that you are not unnecessarily paying Disney prices for such items.
