How to Get Your Kids into Jedi Training Trials of the Temple

The blockbuster film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been breaking box office records.  At the same time Hollywood Studios has opened up the Star Wars Lauch Bay   You might not be aware of the Jedi Training Academy and its new show, Trials of the Temple, and that your child  (if between the ages of 4 and 12) can be trained (rather briefly) as a Jedi.  But for some reason this attraction and show is not that well publicized, although more so now with the new version and the upcoming Star Wars Land.

My own kids participated in the original Jedi Training Academy show when they were almost 8 years old, and had a great time.  My son got to battle Darth Vader with a light saber, and my daughter did the same with Darth Maul.  I know there have been changes in the new show, but I understand that Darth Vader is still  involved along with a Star Wars Rebel character (according to Touringplans.com).  Hopefully the new show keeps the wonderful humor of the previous one, where the Jedi master was constantly making quips about the kid Padawans in the show.  My son was wearing a Darth Vader cap, and so when Darth Vader said to "come over to the dark side," the Jedi trainer retorted, "With his hat, you might have a a chance with this one."

But how do you get your child or children (or with much begging, yourself) into one of the Jedi Training Trials of the Temple shows?  The key is to get to Hollywood Studios at rope drop or as soon after it opens as possible, and immediately dash, both parent(s) and child(ren) to the Indiana Jones Adventure Outpost and line up for the registration process.  This new sign up location is between the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular and the 50s Prime Time Cafe. Apparently, according to a Disney World related Facebook group member, there was a Cast Member holding up a sign directing people to the new sign up location in December.  It is located close to the front entrance We waited in line for about 20 minutes to a half an hour back in March.  The Cast Members were pretty good about updating us on whether to remain in the line or not.

Then when you get to the front, the child is asked a couple of questions and you are offered a time to come back to be in the show.  Whatever time you are given, allow for about an hour to complete the Academy program and show.  If you have a Fastpass for another attraction that conflicts, you can request a later showtime.

It is well worth the effort, especially if there is even a little bit of a Jedi in you and /or your son or daughter is in the required age group!  And if you don't have children, or they are too old or young, you can still watch and enjoy the show while sipping on a cool beverage on the Backlot Café patio.
